Strategic Planning

The Department of Lands and Planning plays an integral role in the sustainable development and growth of the Northern Territory.

Strategic Planning Group (SPG) incorporates the following business units:

The Territory Growth Planning Unit (TGPU)

  • works closely with government agencies and stakeholders on high level government strategies to provide advice on planning for future growth and demand across the Territory.

The Strategic Lands Planning Division (SLP)

  • is responsible for the strategic planning of current and future land to support sustainable outcomes, economic growth, and to meet the needs of stakeholders and the community.

The Land Development and Infrastructure Unit  

  • provides strategic advice on a whole-of-government basis for future land and infrastructure development, and capital works project definition.  It is responsible for the planning, conceptual design, development of Programming Briefs, procurement of consultants, technical and environmental advice, and financial management for major projects, such as the new city of Weddell and new suburb of Kilgariff.

The Sustainability Unit (SU)

  • assists Northern Territory Government Agencies improve their building energy performance through advice on appropriate energy efficiency upgrades and sustainability technologies. The unit also ensures the Northern Territory is provided with strategic planning, policy and technical advice to assist and maintain sustainable infrastructure and land development. The Strategic Planning Coordination Unit (SPC)

  • provides strategic planning and policy assistance on a whole-of-government basis, including the development of the 10 year Infrastructure Strategy and administration of Government's Strategic Planning Fund. It provides business administration to all Units within the Strategic Planning Group and the broader Agency in a coordination role for Government's T2030 Strategic Plan and Working Future Policy arrangements.
